Our Philosophy

The faculty at the Heartland Conservatory of Dance has created a dance training program that emphasizes quality training and performance opportunities.

Our unique curriculum includes a comprehensive set of outcome-based guidelines that combine ballet principles with knowledge of kinesiology and injury prevention. It blends together the best from respected ballet traditions and promotes a pure classical ballet technique. This gives our students the ability to easily adapt to different styles of choreography and techniques of dance.

We believe that ballet is the foundation of all dance. Our class sizes are small enough to facilitate one-on-one attention and help students to clearly understand training concepts.

At HCD, we also believe performing is an important aspect of a student’s training therefore we rarely use class time for rehearsing. We feel that class time is best used for learning and improving dance technique. Additional rehearsals (practices) for our performing opportunities exist through Heartland Youth Ballet, our resident pre-professional company.

Our emphasis is quality dance training and performing through-out the community and although we are not a competition school, Conservatory students interested in competing may do so individually. For those interested in individual coaching and choreography, sessions can be arranged based on availability.
